Why we built Shift
We heard from people who were frustrated trying to make bulk updates to their store data. When it came to importing products, existing solutions were slow and required complicated formats making them tedious and error-prone. Shift was built to solve these problems by offering a smarter, more intuitive way to manage data – one that gives you more control without the headaches.

Flexible & forgiving formats
It’s not good enough to just be fast, we know that one of the biggest gripes with any import tool is the pain of getting data into the right format.
We decided on a set of guiding principles that would support a better user experience:
- You shouldn’t need to know internal IDs, e.g. to assign a category to a product. So Shift automatically maps Category Paths to Categories, e.g.
Women's > Skirts. - You shouldn’t need to know or edit JSON, e.g. to edit custom fields, so we use a column for each custom field, rather than a single column.
- Making bulk updates is powerful but can be scary, so we want to give you as much confidence as possible. This means, we perform validation on import before running them and give you a chance to correct anything that’s out of place.
